Funeral Homily draft 1

Death and the threat of death as with cancer in old age as M had, makes us pause and reflect.

Those who believe in God and life after death have much to hold onto.

Even those who do not believe in an after life can still understand that death is not the end of love.

M was to the end very brave. She didn't fear the cancer although things became more and more trying…….etc. Home was where she wanted to be…….independence was very important, and through the good networking of S C, she was able to maintain a sense of independence.
S C certainly became home after having moved house so often in her life.
She found a peace enjoying her bits of painting and working with colour. She often made posters for public events at S C until her eyesight failed her. Likewise she enjoyed her tapestry and patchwork until eyesight failed.

We are all products of our birth, upbringing and what has happened to us in life. How we have dealt with life depends on our genes as well as our circumstance. It would be true to say that M had a number of raw deals in her life and she didn't always cope very well in earlier more youthful times. None of us are without some sort of hurt at some time in our lives…..but hopefully we all learn from life's lessons. Unhappiness in her childhood and hurt as a young adult soured much in her life. R and N will understand what I mean when we say "we were all hurt." We will grieve and must be allowed to grieve in our own and individual ways, without grudge or criticism for what could have been, in her life and in ours.

However out of everything, M emerged a very strong and independent person who lived to be ….

Friends were very important to her…. Mar in Chelt a life long friend now in her 999999th year and E; and her more local friends who I won't name in case I miss someone out – and partly because I don't know you all. (This was part of the independence thing.) But R and N and I thank you for all that you did to help make her latter years friendly and cheerful.
